The extensive Altmühltal through the Franconian Alb is considered one of the most beautiful valleys in Germany. The well signposted bike path, accompanied by bizarre rock formations, Roman buildings, castles and historical sites will inspire you! Tour start is in Rothenburg an der Tauber, a Bavarian town with medieval flair: cobblestone streets and half-timbered houses characterize the townscape. End of tour is in Regensburg, which is known for its medieval center and the landmark, the Stone Bridge, waits you at the end of the bike tour.
TOUR PROFILE: The route is very well marked and runs on paved roads and, except for day 2 (slightly hilly), on flat bike paths. Around 80% on car-free cycle paths and 20% on side roads with little traffic.
Individual Arrival in Rothenburg/Tauber.
If booked you will receive the rental bikes in the morning. The first tour starts at the source of Altmühl and leads via Hanau, Colmberg (Hohenzollern Castle) and Lehrberg to Ansbach.
The bike tour leads pas the lake Altmühlsee to Gunzenhausen and on the Karlgraben where Charlemagne tried to build a canal between the Rhine and the Danube. Continue to Wettlesheim or Weißenburg.
Today the stage leads through the Altmühltal nature park in numerous serpentines. Through the Kerbtal in the Franconian Alb you reach the old bishop’s town of Eichstätt.
Along the Altmühl it goes past Walting and Arnsberg to Kipfenberg (castle, townscape) to today’s stage destination Beilngries.
The stage leads past Dietfurt to Riedenburg, where you can admire the lagest mountain crystal group in the World. Admission to the Crystal Museum included. Along the Main-Danube canal to where the Altmühl flows into the Danube near Kelheim.
Before you continue the bike tour: boat trip on the impressive Danube from Kelheim to Weltenburg Monastery and back (approx. € 16,- payment on site). The tour continues by bike past Saal an der Donau and Bad Abbach bis nach Regensburg – an episcopal city well worth seeing.

The overnight stays are in very good middle class hotels of the 3***-category and 4****-category. Daily breakfast.
Attention: Bringing your own bikes is at your own risk! No liability can be accepted for damage to your own bike during the entire bike tour and during the transfers!
Return transport from Regensburg to Rothenburg/Tauber:
By bus: every Saturday and from May to September also on Sunday, during the whole season - €

Bike transport from Regensburg to Rothenburg/Tauber in

transfer must be registered when booking!
Procedure: On the days with bus return journey
the bicycles are transported in the course of the bus journey.
On the other days: delifery of bikes
at least until 5 p.m. on the day before
departure in the last stage hotel. Then the bikes are ready on next day in
Rothenburg at the hotel.
Please note that it is only possible to take bikes with you up to a tire width of 5 cm!
