Bavarian is not only characterized by mountains, beer and baroque but also spiritually for centuries by the prayer and work of the Benedictines. Discover Bavarian lakes and the state capital Munich on this trip.
Start and end of this bike tour is Bad Tölz, a town in Upper Bavaria, nestled in forested mountain scenery along the course of the Isar river. The street “Marktstraße” with the numerous painted houses, is very busy and invites you to stroll. The town became famous in german-speaking world through the television series “Der Bulle von Tölz”, to which a small museum was dedicated. Enjoy the convenience of a home-based tour, where you return to your hotel every day and do not have to pack your bags in between.
TOUR PROFILE: You cycle on mainly asphalted, well-signposted long-distance cycle paths, as well as on quiet side roads (only on short sections also on main roads). Some longer stretches will also be on well-maintained natural roads. Total length: approx. 265 km
Individual arrival to Bavaria to the spa town of Bad Tölz, where you will stay during your bike trip.
The fjord-like Sylvenstein reservoir in the Isarwinkel can easily be mistaken for a Canadian mountain lake – the panorama is breathtaking!
Lake Tegernsee offers its visitors a wonderful nature experience and a unique mountain panorama. On the way back to Bad Tölz, you can pay a visit to the Franciscan monastery Reutberg in Sachsenkam.
Along the Isar cycle path you cycle towards Munich. Today’s stage to the capital of Bavaria is rich in sights. Visit the church Frauenkirche, the landmark of Munich and enjoy the view over the city after a tower ascent to the south tower (incl.) The return journey from Munich to Bad Tölz is by Oberlandbahn train (on your own).
From Lenggries‘ local mountain Brauneck, which together with the Achselköpfe forms the mountain group of the Benediktenwand, you have a fantastic view over the Karwendel mountains (tickets on your own).
Because of ist proximity to the state capital Munich, the second largest lake in Bavaria is also called the „bathtub of Munich“. The region around Lake Starnberg offers many old villas and small castles that are worth a visit.
