From Sillian to lake "Klopeiner See"

Cycle on one of the most beautiful cycle paths in Austria! Lake Klopeiner See invites you to take a dip. Discover castles, historic towns and villages! You can get to know culinary delicacies such as "Nudeln" or "Reindling" on this trip.

TOUR PROFILE: 90% of the cycle path is asphalted, partly hard sanded.


Tour description:

DAY 1: ARRIVAL IN SILLIAN / STRASSEN

Individual arrival in Sillian/Strassen in East Tyrol. You will receive the travel documents and rental bikes (if booked). An unguarded private parking lot near the hotel is available for a surcharge.

DAY 2: SILLIAN / STRASSEN - OBERDRAUBURG / BERG (APPROX. 46 - 55 KM)

Along the Drava you cycle with magnificent views of Heinfels Castle and the imposing Dolomites past Thal (Gothic village church) to Lienz (Bruck Castle with picture gallery; very beautiful village). Continue past archaeological excavation sites (Aguntum, Maria Lavant) to Oberdrauburg or Berg - situated in the middle of the wide Drautal valley.

DAY 3: OBERDRAUBURG / BERG - SACHSENBURG (APPROX. 40 - 49 KM)

Past the fuchsia garden, a beautiful ornamental garden, on to the medieval town of Greifenburg and on to Sachsenburg.

DAY 4: SACHSENBURG - VILLACH (APPROX. 50 KM)

Continue to Spittal an der Drau, past Schloss Rothenthurn you reach Paternion. Always level and cycling along the Drava; passing Unterwollanig and a large marble quarry you reach Villach (historical centre, Church of the Holy Spirit, town parish tower, doll & vehicle museum, Drava- boat trip).

DAY 5: VILLACH - UNTERBERGEN / FERLACH (APPROX. 50 KM)

Along the Drava River to Austria's most species-rich animal park near Rosegg Castle and the Celtic World (Hallstatt period) near Frög, then along the Drava River to Feistritz in the Rosental Valley, at the mouth of the Rosenbach stream into the Drava River. The Rosental is considered one of the most beautiful valleys in Carinthia. Passing Maria Elend (pilgrimage church), you reach the old gunsmith town at Schloss Hollenburg and Unterbergen or Ferlach (enchanting centre; gunsmith and hunting museum; bee museum).

DAY 6: UNTERBERGEN / FERLACH - LAKE KLOPEIN (APPROX. 44 KM)

You cycle alone along the Drava, further through the Rosental, a particularly beautiful section of the Drau Valley, to Gallizien, Kleindorf and Seidendorf and past Neudenstein Castle and the adjacent bird sanctuary to the village of Völkermarkt (town parish church, old town hall, new castle, picturesque location); on side roads to the nearby lake Klopeiner See.

DAY 7: DEPARTURE OR EXTENSION

Return transfer to Silian/Strassen or booking of additional nights.

Accommodation:

You will stay in good middle-class hotels of the 3*** and 4**** category. Daily breakfast buffet. Tourist tax has to be paid on spot, about € 3,50 per person.

Travel information:

Return transfer Lake Klopein to Sillian / Strassen:

By bus:  Every Friday & Saturday directly from the hotel. The return transfer is from the hotel to Sillian/Strassen to the parking lot. price per person € 68,-

Own bikes can be taken along for an extra charge of € 30,-/ normal bike or € 36,- for E-Bike (both WITHOUT transport insurance).
This service has to be booked together with the reservation of the trip!

Important notice:

If you bring your own bikes, it is at your own risk! No liability can be accepted for damage to your own bike during the entire cycle tour and during transfers!
