German Danube - Bike Tour

A bike tour from the source of the Danube whiche takes through varied southern Germany. Beer, culture, numerous sacred buildings, castles, worth seeing natural spectacles such as the Danube breakthrough “Donaudurchbruch” or the karst spring “Blautopf” invite you on this bike tour to marvel and discover. Until the bike tour reach the final destination the Bavarian city of Regensburg, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Almost a thousand architectural monuments from two thousand years of European history crowd together here in a very small area.

TOUR PROFILE: An easy tour that is mostly flat. The route has been chosen to run mainly on bike paths and minor roads with little traffic.

Individual arrival to Donaueschingen. Take the time to visit the residential town. With extensive park grounds and the magnificent palace with court library and state rooms are worth an extensive visit. Pick up the rental bikes and travel documents.

At the bottom of the valley you cycle from the source to the seepage “Donauversickerung” near Möhringen and further to the old, picturesque town of Mühlheim/D. or Fridingen.

The Upper Danube Nature Park accompanies you for about 30 km with narrow gorges, valley landscapes and lonely forest meadows. So you reach the monastery town of Beuron. Continue the cycle trip to Sigmaringen (capital of the Hohenzollern state until 1918). With its impressive castle of the Hohenzollern (incl.) or further to Scheer or Mengen.

Depending on your hotel, you will have a longer or shorter stage today. Close to the Danube to Riedlingen (half-timbered) and through the Marchtal, where the Danube flows through a particularly romantic piece and you cycle further to the day’s destination Ehingen.

To the Blue valley „Blautal“ to German’s most beautiful karst spring, the Blautopf, and on to tranquil city Ulm. Through floodplain forests to Günzburg and further by train to Lauingen (departure every hour, € 12,- per person)

Past Donauwörth to the baroque residence town with castle, pharmacy and much more. If you want, you can shorten the tour in Donauwörth on you own by train (departure every hour, approx. € 17,- per person), so that is a shortened bike tour of about 45 km.

Past the romantic hunting lodge Grünau to Ingolstadt and via Großmehring, Voburg and Pförring to Bad Gögging.

Through hop fields to the Weltenburg monastery. By boad (incl.) through the world-famous Danube breakthrough to Kelheim. Continue the cycle tour along the Danube Cycle Path via Saal and Bad Abbach to Regensburg. Here the bike tour ends, but before that you can visit the medieval old town, the Stone Bridge and the Gothic Cathedral.

You will stay in good middle class hotels of the 3*** and 4**** category – all rooms with shower/WC. Daily breakfast buffet. Local taxes are to be paid directly on site (approx. € 3,- per person / night). If you book half board, it is 5x a 3-course dinner with choice of the main course on days 1, 3, 6, 7, and 8, partly in the hotel or in a restaurant near the hotel. On other days only Bed&Breakfast possible.                                                                        

Return transfer Regensburg - Donaueschingen

By train: daily, every 2 hours, free choice oft rain in regional trains (2nd class) € 45,- per person.
Bicycles can be taken on the train (payable locally approx. € 6,-)

Return transfer of own bikes:
Your own bikes can be transported on the return day (Sunday!) at an extra charge of €42,- (normal bike) or € 48,- for ebike (without transport insurance) or € 55,- for e-bike (with transport insurance up to € 6.000,-)

This Service must be booked directly at the time of booking!

Limited places! Transfers not booked in advance cannot be carried out!

Please note that the transport of bikes is only possible up to a tyre width of 5 cm!

Procedure: Drop off the bikes by05:00 pm at latest on the day before departure (on Saturday) at the last stage hotel in Regensburg. In Donaueschingen the bikes will be ready at the hotel by 11:00 am.–

Important note:

Bringing your own bike is at your own rist. No liability can be accepted for damage to your own bike during cycling tour and during the transfers!

Please note that rental bikes (also e-bikes) may have a defect. During the entire cycling route bike intact replacement bikes with 7-gears (NO E-Bikes!) are available You hand in your defective bike and simply “saddle up”.

Your own workshop bills etc. will not be paid by us.
