Neckar Bike trip

The Neckar offers the most romantic of the German rivers and promises great enjoyment for cyclists. This bike tour connects the two university cities of Tübingen and Heidelberg. In between there are extraordinary places like the Schiller town of Marbach, the wine town of Besigheim and Bad Wimpfen with the former imperial palace. The cycle tour along the Neckar is one of the most interesting and varied cycle paths.

TOUR PROFILE: The Route doesn't always run directly near the river, so slight climbs are inevitable. The well-signposted cycle path leads along cycle paths and farm roads that are not always paved, and in parts also along relatively quiet country roads. shor sections sometimes have to be covered on busy roads, especially when cycling through towns.Length: approx. 229 km

The first cycle tour leads down the Neckar through a charming landscape. Numerous bathing lakes invite you to refresh yourself before you come to picturesque town of Nürtingen. Via Plochingen, where you can find the Rain tower by the artist Friedensreich Hundertwasser, and then you reach Esslingen.

Today your bike tour takes you to the state capital of Baden-Württemberg, Stuttgart. Passing the baroque city of Ludwigsburg you reach Marbach, the birthplace of the famous poet Friedrich Schiller. A visit to the house where he was born (incl.) gives an impression of life at that time.

You cylce across meadows and fields to Besigheim and then continue to cycle near the shore to the wine village of Lauffen. Through vineyards you reach the Käthchenstadt Heilbronn. Use the time for a stroll through the old town and visit the numerous monuments such as the Gothic Kilianskirche (church), the Käthchenhaus or the town hall, which is one of the most beautiful in Germany.

You follow the Burgenstraße and come to Neckarsulm with the German Bicycle Museum. Past lush terraces vineyards and wooded mountain ridges, you pass castle Hornberg and Castle Zwingenberg and reach romantic Mosbach with its numerous half-timbered houses or the old Staufer town Eberbach.

Between Eberbach and Heidelberg the Neckar meanders through the hills of Odenwald. You reach Hirschhorn, which is dominated by its knight's castle. You continue cycling to Neckarsteinach, a town with four castles. In Neckargemünd you cross the river again and arrive in the university city of Heidelberg
