Bike tour: Princely travel from Castle to Castle

Experience the region Salzkammergut in its original form - out of the way of alpine kitsch - and enjoy a healthy as well as a luxurious and authentic holiday, which does justice to its meaning. In the course of this trip you will be accommodated in originally-styled castles and historical hotels or manor house hotels, decorated with great attention to detail, whose staff will hold the individual arangement of your holiday and especially your culinary stroll through the highlights of the Salzkammergut close to their hearts. Allow yourself to be tempted by the flair of these traditional hotels, steeped in history and legends and dive into a world in which philosophers dream up their thoughts, artist create their masterpieces and princes manage their estates. On this trip, exceptionally, the path is not the only destination ... Take enough time to discover the sights of Salzburg: the old town with the most famous street: the Getreidegasse, where Mozart's birthplace can be found. Hohensalzburg fortress towers high above the city and is also worth a visit! On your further journey you will pass some interesting places with your bike: Gmunden with the famous lake castle Ort, the imperial city of Bad Ischl and Hallstatt with the oldest salt mine in the world. A bike tour directly from the organizer!

TOURPROFILE: you leave the city of Mozart on flat bike paths along the Salzach. the further bike kilometers between the lakes are slightly hilly. the majority of the tour runs on bike paths and side roads.


Tour route:

1 ST  DAY: INDIVIDUAL ARRIVAL IN SALZBURG

Arrival in the heart of the Mozart City Salzburg. Here, in a top hotel, you receive information about your tour. The charm of  this Austrian city can be best explored during a walk. There are many places to see: the Schloss Mirabell and its garden, the fortress Hohensalzburg, Mozart's place of birth in the Getreidegasse, ... You should not miss the culinary of Salzburg: the "Mozartkugeln", Salzburger Nockerl or a spicy Bosna (similar to hot dog).

2ND  DAY: SALZBURG – MATTSEE (APPROX. 55 KM)

The  bike  tour  begins  along  the  river  Salzach down the river to Oberndorf, the place of origin of the famous Christmas carol “Silent Night”. On to the Augustinian convent in Michaelbeuern and into  the  lake  region  Trumer-Seenland  (Obertrumersee,  Mattsee,  Grabensee).  You  spend  the night in a specially chosen, historically interesting place or a great 4-star hotel near the lake.

3RD  DAY: MATTSEE – MONDSEE (APPROX. 50 KM)

Today you cycle across the  European Nature Reserve “Wenger Moor” to Neumarkt and on to Irrsee, in the Salzkammergut you continue to Mondsee with its castle and the Benedictine monastery, where your taste buds will be spoilt. After your bike tour you can do a walk along the lake promenade of Mondsee. If there is still enough time, you can also do a boat trip on lake Mondsee on your own.

4TH  DAY: MONDSEE – TRAUNSEE (APPROX. 55 KM)

You  continue  along  the lake Mondsee;  in  Unterach am Attersee you take the boat to Weyregg. From Weyregg you cycle through the valley Aurachtal on to Gmunden with its unique ceramic Glockenspiel. Your today's overnight take place in one of the villages around Lake Traunsee: Gmunden, Traunkirchen or Ebensee.

5TH  DAY: TRAUNSEE – BAD AUSSEE/ HALLSTATT (APPROX. 30 KM)

Depending on your overnight stay you cycle a short distance to the railway station in Ebensee and take the train to Obertraun/Bad Aussee am Hallstättersee with its mighty Dachstein glacier  massif  and  its  charming  ice  caves.  You continue by bike along the lake shore to today’s destination, the world heritage site of Hallstatt. Here  you  have  the  opportunity  of  visiting  the charnel house and the salt mine. Hallstatt is a very famous little village and in summer you can expect a lot of tourists. But enjoy the view anyway.

6TH DAY: HALLSTATT – WOLFGANGSEE (APPROX. 50 KM)

Today the tour starts with a boat trip across Hallstättersee and continue on to Bad Goisern and the imperial health resort Bad Ischl. Bad Ischl offers many intriguing historical places of interest such as the Empress Sissi’s tea house, the imperial villa, the imperial park and the Lehar villa. We continue from here along the Ischler-Ache to Wolfgangsee – where you find the today’s destination.

7TH DAY: WOLFGANGSEE – SALZBURG (APPROX. 60 KM)

During today’s stage you cycle on the Ischlertrasse (between 1891 and 1957 the historical railway route between Salzburg and Bad Ischl). The route takes you along the lake shore to St. Gilgen, the birthplace of Mozart’s sister Nannerl. After  a  thrilling  downhill  ride  to  Scharfling  you continue  along  Mondsee  through  Thalgau  and Eugendorf and then on the second part of the Ischlertrasse back to Salzburg and the first hotel you stayed in.

8TH  DAY: DEPARTURE OR EXTENSION
