SunBike bike tour: Salzburger lakes - bike rally Wallersee

Experience the Salzburg Lake district in its original form - away from alpine kitsch and enjoy an authentic vacation in a healthy way. The starting point of this bike tour is Neumarkt am Wallersee, where you will spend your cycling vacation. A short, home-based trip where you can do without packing your suitcase during the tour.

The city of Salzburg offers numerous opportunities for sightseeing (water games, Schloss Hellbrunn, Altstadt, ... and the Salzburg lake district offers plenty of opportunities to cool off with the numerous lakes: From the Wallersee, the Egelseen, Trumer Seen (Obertrumer See, Mattsee and Grabensee) and the lakes Irrsee and Mondsee, located in the Upper Austrian Salzkammergut. It is a short bike trip with pleasure! A bike tour directly from the organizer!

TOUR PROFILE: Most of the tour runs on bike paths and side roads. The landscape is slightly hilly.

Individual arrival in Neumarkt am Wallersee, a young town in Flachgau, in the province of Salzburg. Sights in Neumarkt include the Fronfeste Museum (focusing on the Romans and the past as a place of Justice) wirh the Kramerey (museum store with handicraft items, homemade gifts and delicacies from the region) located inside of the Museum, the catholic church with the Schanzwall, as well as Sighartstein Castle, which is located outside of the town center. In the evening the info meeting takes place in the hotel.

Mostly along the Wallersee bike path and the Ischlertrasse (historic railroad connection ran here from 1891 to 1957), the short bike tour leads today to Salzburg city. You can visit the Hellbrunn Palace with its extensive park and the world's unique water games invite you to dream. Other highlights in Salzburg are Mirabell Palace with Mirabell Gardens, the old town with Salzburg's most famous alley, Getreidegasse, where Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's birthplace is located. High above the baroque old town is the Hohensalzburg Fortress, which is also worth a visit. Return by train from Salzburg to Neumarkt am Wallersee.

The route leads via Wallersee to the Egel lakes and so on to the Trumer lakes, which include the lakes Mattsee, Obertrumer See and Grabensee. In the center of Mattsee is the collegiate church of St. michael and Mattsee Castle. Another place to visit is the Ferdinand Porsche Museum, where you can find historic vehicles. The bike tour continues back to Neumarkt am Wallersee.

There  are  two  more  lakes  to  discover.  From Neumarkt you cycle to the lake Irrsee, a natural bathing lake, which is one of the warmest lakes in the Salzkammergut, and further to Mondsee with  its  castle  and  Benedictine  monastery.  Go for a walk through the Almeida-Park and along the lake promenade or take a boat trip on lake Mondsee  on  your  own  before  returning  to Neumarkt am Wallersee.
