Tour description

DAY 1: ARRIVAL IN VIENNA

Individual arrival in Vienna. (Tipp: use low- cost transportation to and from Vienna/Bratislava). This evening belongs to you! How about a spectacular stroll through the Imperial City or a visit of one of the typical Viennese cafés/taverns with local food and goodies (“Heurigen”)? Possibilities are endless in the “City of Waltz”.

DAY 2: Vienna – Bad Deutsch Altenburg/surroundings, approx. 42 km

Leave the imperial city behind you and immerse yourself in the tranquillity of the unspoilt floodplain landscape, interrupted only by the chirping of breeding water birds – that’s pure relaxation! The Carnuntum Archaeological Park invites you on an exciting journey through time. Continue to the Slovakian capital Bratislava, which enchants with its dreamy old town. The castle towers high above the Danube.

DAY 3: Bad Deutsch Altenburg/surroundings – Bratislava, approx. 26 km

The “Schüttinsel” is a paradise for birds and fish. In the middle of this untouched landscape with small islands, you will find dreamy farming villages and a labyrinth of Danube side arms. You soon reach Mosonmagyarovar, a pretty little town with a beautiful old town and a castle.

DAY 4: Bratislava – Györ, approx. 82 km

Enjoy the unique surroundings of the Schüttinsel, which is an almost untouched nature with pristine water landscapes, alluvial forests, ancient giant trees and quiet oxbow lakes. In contrast, Györ, a flourishing industrial city at the confluence of the Danube, Rába and Rábca rivers, invites visitors to take an atmospheric stroll through the narrow streets, churches and palaces of the baroque city center. Recommendation: Take the train between Györ and Komarom. Train tickets are available from ticket machines at the station and cost around € 1 per journey. This shortens the cycling stage to a total of approx. 45 km.

DAY 5: Györ – Komarno/surroundings, (approx. 57 km)

You cycle along the Slovakian bank of the Danube on embankment paths and low-traffic side roads through small farming villages. You pass the Roman fort of Kelemantia on the way to the episcopal and royal city of Esztergom, whose basilica, the largest church in Hungary, is a glittering highlight of this tour.
