Many times we have decided for active holidays. Sometimes together with friends, sometimes only as a couple. We have already ridden a few tours - Danube, Altmühltal, Salzkammergut, Mallorca, ... you can call us quite "old hands", but now we wanted to book a cycling holiday on Menorca on recommendation of our friends. The flight connections did not make it that easy for us at first, but we got the tip to fly to Mallorca and take the ferry to Menorca.
We also booked a few days on Mallorca and took a taxi to Porto Alcudia. There the ferry to Menorca started.
We reached Menorca after about one and a half hours. A taxi took us to the hotel in Mahon, where the first night was spent.
Before the first trip started, we met with Georges, a staff of SunBike, who gave us a lot of information and brought us the travel documents. He also gaves us our two rental bikes.
Day 2 - Our first stage: the tour started in direction south. Through roads that were surrounded by stone walls and through a beautiful village called "Binibequer Vell", which is simply unmistakable beacause of the white houses and the narrow streets.
Day 3 - We passed through a bird reserve that is home to numerous species of birds. The path continued to the lighthouse Favaritx. The area really resembles a lunar landscape, because of the rocky rocks. At the end we reached the day's destination: Es Mercadal, a place inland. Although there is no access to the sea, Hostal Jeni has a pool that you can use and there are many restaurants in the village.
Day 4 - Our cycling trip went over "beaches of the north". This day literally entices you to swim - one bay more beautiful than the other!
Day 5 - This cycle trip led us via Cala Galdana by to the old capital of Menorca - Ciutadella. It is true that there is a big difference between the current capital Mahon and Ciutadella! Both cities were built in different architectural styles and therefore could not be more different!
Day 6 - This day began with a guided tour of the city with Georges, whom we already knew from our information meeting. He showed us the old town, the cathedral and palaves and told us the historical background. The rest of the day we spent - how could it be otherwise - by the sea.
Day 7 - On our last stage we drove towards "beaches of the south" and made ourselves comfortable again at the bay and used the fantastic weather for swimming.
The time goes by too fast! With our rental bikes we had no problems despite a flat tire, which we could repair by ourselves - our bike holiday was without negative experiences.
We found the cycling holiday in Menorca more relaxing than in Mallorca! The island also has a lot to offer in terms of landscape, on the one hand surrounded by greenery on the other hand there are rocky coasts, but also sandy beaches. If you are looking for peace and still want to actively enjoy your holiday, is most likely as we convinced of Menorca!
