Refreshing lake bike tour in the footsteps of the Trapp Family (Sound of Music) and W. A. Mozart

Salzburg, the city of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and it's also well known for the Trapp Family (Sound of Music), is the starting point of this journey. The home of the Salzburger Festspiele invites the visitor to a stroll along its river Salzach and through the old part of town. You experience the echoes of the last centuries in its many historical places of interest. such as the Mozart city of Salzburg or the imperial city of Bad Ischl. In between are smaller towns and numerous lakes. The charming hilly landscape around Salzburg, with its moors and numerous lakes with water of potable quality, will accompany you for the week of your trip. This tour is a delight for all sense and you will ask yourself: In which lake will I have a swim today again after the bike tour? This extended tour lasts 9 days / 8 nights. You will reach the Ibmer Moor, one of the most beautiful moors in Central Europe. Enjoy the silence in this area! This bike tour in Austria allows to see a lot of the region Salzburger Seenland and Salzkammergut. A highlight is also during the shipping season the boat trip at the Attersee! 

TOUR PROFILE:
You cycle out of the Mozart City on flat bicycle paths along the river Salzach. The rest of the route between the lakes is slightly hilly. The majority of the tour consists of bicycle paths and side roads.


Tour Route 

1 ST DAY: ARRIAL TO SALZBURG

Individual arrival to the Mozart City in your first hotel. Here the tour information will happens and you will also get the rental bikes. In Salzburg there are many places to see: Mozart's birthplace in the Getreidegasse, Fortress Hohensalzburg, Schloss Mirabell and its garden, ...

2ND DAY: SALZBURG - HOLZÖSTER / DORFIBM  (APPROX. 45 KM):

The tour takes you across the Ibmer Moor, one of Central Europe’s most beautiful moors, to Holzöster/Dorfibm

3RD  DAY: HOLZÖSTER / DORFIBM - TRUMER SEEN / WALLERSEE (APPROX. 30 - 55 KM)

From Holzöster / Dorfibm you cycle to Augustiner abbey Michaelbeuern and to Trumer Lakes (Obertrumersee, Mattsee, Grabensee) and further on to Wallersee. Here lived the famous writers surch as Carl Zuckmayer and Stefan Zweig.

4TH  DAY: TRUMER SEEN / WALLERSEE - MONDSEE / ATTERSEE (APPROX. 40 - 55 KM)

From your hotel you cycle across the European Nature Reserve “Wenger Moor” to Neumarkt and on to Irrsee, in the Salzkammergut you continue to Mondsee with its castle and the Benedictine monastery. 

5TH DAY: MONDSEE / ATTERSEE – TRAUNSEE (APPROX: 55 KM)

The bike tour starts with a trip to Unterach/Attersee and take the boat to Weyregg. From Weyregg you cycle through the valley Aurachtal on to Gmunden with its  unique  ceramic  glockenspiel.  You  continue along the shore of Traunsee with its Schloss Orth (setting of a popular TV series) to Traunkirchen, where  the  old  Fischerkanzel  (Fishermen  Pulpit) can be seen.

6TH DAY: TRAUNSEE – HALLSTÄTTER SEE/ BAD GOISERN (APPROX. 30 KM)

Bike tour to Ebensee and take  the  train  to  Obertraun  am  Hallstättersee with its mighty Dachstein glacier massif and its charming ice caves. We bike along the lake shore to the highlight of the tour, the world heritage site of Hallstatt. Here you have the opportunity of visiting the charnel house and the salt mine. Our tour takes us along the eastern shore bicycle path on to Bad Goisern.

7TH  DAY: BAD GOISERN – WOLFGANGSEE (APPROX. 30 KM)

From Bad Goisern you cycle along the river Traun to the time-honoured imperial health resort Bad Ischl  with  its  many  historical  places  of  interest. We  continue  from  here  along  the  Ischler-Ache to Wolfgangsee – the lake is today’s destination. It is worthwhile to take the cable railway up the Schafberg (1798 m) here und to enjoy the beautiful vantage point over the Salzkammergut lake plane that it offers.

8TH DAY: WOLFGANGSEE – SCHARFLING –  SALZBURG (APPROX. 60 KM)

During today’s stage you cycle on the Ischlertrasse. The route takes you along the lake shore to St. Gilgen, the birthplace of Mozart’s sister Nannerl. After a thrilling downhill ride to Scharfling you continue  along  Mondsee through Thalgau  and Eugendorf and then on the second part of the Ischlertrasse back to Salzburg.

9TH DAY: DEPARTURE OR EXTENSION
